Following on from the great success of our 'SOMME 100 - KEIGHLEY'S MEN' exhibition in Keighley Library which ran for four months between 2nd July and 19th November 2016, we are planning similar exhibitions this year for The Battle of Arras - 9th April 1917 to 16th May 1917, and the Battle of Passchendaele which was fought from 31st July 1917 to 10th November 1917.
We will also be holding a dedication ceremony at the grave of Private Ivor Tempest Greenwood who died in 1914 after serving just a few weeks in the Army. We gained recognition for him with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in July 2014, and he had a new CWGC headstone installed on his grave at Utley Cemetery in February 2017. Our dedication will be held on Sunday 9th July 2017 at 2:00 pm in Utley Cemetery and will be a similar format to the one we held for Private Herbert Moore in 2015.
We are awaiting some funding support for these things and remain hopeful, but whatever happens with that, rest assured we will be doing something to mark the centenaries of these major actions in the Great War and the effect they had on the people of this town who served in them.
Andy.
