Mildred Frankland
General Service and Nurse, Member S.J.A.B
Mildred Ellen Frankland was born on 23rd April 1894 to Herbert Frankland, a cotton manufacturer of Colne and Elizabeth Frankland nee Taylor of Arkholme in Lancashire. Grace's Guide of 1891 shows Frankland & Co were based at Walton Street Shed and had 226 looms, producing oxfords, winceys and worsted goods.
Mildred was baptised on 8th July 1894 at St. Bartholomew Church in Colne. At the time they lived at 12 Clifford Street.
She was the oldest of three children - her younger siblings were Mary Ella and Vincent, by two and six years respectively.
At the time of the 1901 census the family had moved to 26 Skipton Road in Colne, Herbert was described as a cotton manufacturer's son (book keeper). By 1911 they had moved again, to 53 Keighley Road in Colne. Mildred was 16 years old but not in employment.
Mildred worked in general service and as a nurse, the VAD records have a notation which reads "The best available details have been given. See letter dated 22nd May 1919 Nurse West End Auxiliary Hospital April 20th 1917 to March 7th 1919 (taken from query list." West End Auxiliary Hospital was located on Albert Road in Colne.
Mildred married Thomas Edward Watson in the latter part of 1923 in Burnley and they had a son, Roy Herbert Manley Watson in 1924. Mildred and Thomas are shown on the 1939 Register living at The Bungalow, Northroyd Castle Road in Colne. Thomas was described as a motor engineer, employer. There is one redacted entry on the Register which I assume is their son.
Probate records show that Mildred died at the age of 80 on 12th November 1974 in Colne.
